Basic Dough

My go-to homemade dough is simple and perfect for baking from scratch. I use this recipe for making pizza, manaqeesh, and other savory/sweet treats. Making dough does not have to be complex, use this easy, 5 ingredient recpie for your baking!

Ingredients
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 1/4 tsp. active dry yeast
  • 3 1/4 cups whole wheat white flour (or all purpose flour)
  • 1/4 cup ground flaxseed (optional)
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
Makes one 16-inch or two 12-inch round dough
Prep time: 15 min.
​Rise time: 45 min.
Directions
  • Pour the water into a bowl and dust the yeast over it. Stir until dissolved and put aside.
  • In a food processor, combine 3 cups of flour with salt and flaxseed, add the yeast mixture and the oil, and process until a dough forms a ball.
  • Pinch the dough, if sticky add a little more flour. If it is crumbly add a little more water.
  • Divide the dough ball into two equal-sized balls.
  • Put the balls in two separate bowls, cover lightly, keep them in a warm place, and let them rise for 45 minutes.
  • Spread 1/4 cup of flour on a clean surface, place one ball of dough at a time, and roll into a circle shape. Repeat for the second ball.
