ABCD Cooking Demo & Dinner

This was a cooking demonstration/dinner and nutrition education session that I sponsored and provided for a local group of middle school girls (adolescent population) and their parents. The idea behind it was to spread awareness about the importance of nutrition as a part of a healthy lifestyle. The participants enjoyed dinner, learned how to prepare and cook the meal, and realized that nutritious is delicious.

Dinner Features Tastes from Around the World

Participated in a Naperville, IL community gathering where volunteers brought a dish of their choice from their culture. I prepared a complete, popular, nutritious, economical, and environmentally friendly traditional meal. The meal was featured in the Chicago Tribune newspaper in an article titled: Dinner features tastes from around the world on 11/04/2017.

Art Awareness: Spring Brook Elementary School

I volunteered for different initiatives at Spring Brook Elementary School of Indian Prairie School District 204. Being an art awareness program facilitator was one of my favorite activities to excute. This included generating a monthly presentation and a project for a specific artist. Whenever possible, I encouraged healthy dietary habits by providing healthy snacks (different fruits)  that went with the theme of the presentation/project for the students to enjoy at the end of the art session.

Multicultural Night

This multicultural night took place at Spring Brook Elementary School where volunteers brought a dish or a game from their respective cultures to share, serve, and educate the community about it. As a volunteer, I dressed my daughters and myself in traditional clothes and brought my homemade hummus dish to share with the attendees. In addition, I developed the hummus recipe, and it was added to the event's cookbook that was used to raise funds for the school's Parent Teacher Association.
